What Do You Do For Fun?

I did something on Sunday evening that I have wanted to do for a while and which was sooo much fun! I went on a scorpion hunt!!! I did and it was a lot of fun. I had a great guide (my niece Kristen), proper equipment (a black light and a blow torch) and a few eager and willing participants (Aaron, Melissa, Brent, Jamie & Greg). We set out, carefully following Kristen, with only the glow of the black light flash light she was holding. We soon found out that we were not prepared in our choice of shoes. Flip flops are really not the shoes you should wear when you are creeping through the dark, especially through the bushes and trees and walking around the horses and turtles (yuck). Aaron & Melissa quickly changed their shoes (convenient that they live so close) and the hunt continued.

What an amazing thing to see when you shine the black light on the block fence and you see a neon green glowing scorpion in front of you. Now you would think that the darkness, mixed with the scary anticipation of sneaking up on a dangerous eight legged venomous invertebrates would make your heart race and a scary experience, right? Wrong! I have never laughed so hard in my life. I know I made the others who were with me slightly upset by my joyful, but irritating outbursts, but I just couldn't help it. It was so fun and exciting that I just had to laugh. Watching my nieces Kristen & Jamie point the blow torch and absolutely incinerate those pesty things was hilarious. On top of that we were all marching (yes marching in place); keeping our feet moving at all times in fear that something would crawl onto our unprotected feet. The visual picture of all of that was just priceless to me. I got a turn and I have to tell you it was pretty exhilarating. Doug, who was sitting on the back patio watching the group from a distance, thought I sounded like I was on an amusement park ride, not on a dangerous hunt. We killed about 15 of those scary demons, making my sister-in-law's backyard a much safer place to be in.

Now if that wasn't the highlight of the evening, as our group crept around the back corner of Aaron & Melissa's house, we heard a loud fluttering noise. Melissa quickly wanted to know what that noise was. Someone said they thought it was a bat and no sooner than the word "bat" was said, out flew a bat out of the tree, right in front of Melissa's face. You could hear her blood curdling scream a mile a way as she raced by all of us. Glad she changed her shoes earlier. Of course this scene had us all laughing. I had so much fun and I can't wait until next Sunday night for another great adventure.

You would think it is a creepy place...bats and scorpions. Oh but how I missed the fun on Sunday. Don't know that I would have joined the hunt though. I kinda feel bad for the little guys just minding there own business when they suddenly burst into flames. I guess that's just me though...

NO WAY! That is SICK! I can't believe you found 15. And a bat - HOLY COW - I guess I am glad I wasn't there on that night.

You might feel bad, until you've been stung, and your foot swelled up for two days and you couldn't walk on it and it felt like someone was sticking a knife in your toe over and over again. And you couldn't sleep because your whole leg was pulsating from the venom. Yeah, I don't feel bad at all. The blue flame of death kills them quickly.
