I Hope They Call Me On A Mission . . . .

Brent received his missionary call on Friday. He will be serving in Trujillo, Peru! He reports January 21, 2009. He has been checking the mailbox every day in nervous anticipation and then Friday . . . . there it was. The big white envelope.

He quickly started calling family and friends to let them know he was going to open the big white envelope that evening. So many people came (I think more than he called) who have been such a great influence in his life. His church leaders, neighbors, extended family, etc. We had several people on the phones, like my sister who lives so dang far, waiting in anticipation.

(I wanted to download a video of him reading his letter, but I couldn't get it to work and Doug deleted it by accident . . . ugh!)

It was special. I have mixed emotions about this. I am thrilled and so proud of him for making the decision to serve. What a sacrifice this will be for him to devote two years in complete unselfish service to our Heavenly Father and relearn Spanish. I am proud, but I am having my own little pitty party thinking too far in advance for my brain . . . thinking of the moments when he won't be here, for whatever occasion, and how sad it will be without him.

He will make an awesome missionary. He has such a sweet and gentle personality. I know the people in Peru will fall in love with him and in two years they will understand how I feel today . . . it will be hard for them to let him go.

Lori
I just sat down to check some Blogs and yours was the first. I was so happy to read of Brent's mission call to Peru. I remember saying at the time my two boys went on Missions that Mormon women had to be the craziest Moms in the world. We spend almost the entire lives of our boys encouraging them to go on a mission. sacrificing to get them there then cry the whole time they are gone. It will be such a blessing to you all as a family. The feeling is so great. It has been many years since Dean and Richard were gone but to this day I can't see one of our Missionaries, or usdually two) on the street that my heart does a flip flop and I feel almost protective of them as if they were my own. It is odd too that since Conference yesterday I have thought so much of the Brother from Peru who talked. He sounded so sincere and humble. I can't even remember his name but I think he is a Seventy. Maybe Brent will have the privilege of meeting him down there. I am so happy for all of you. I have seen a lot of Grandsons go out. Gena's youngest is in the Manchester, New Hampshire Mission right now. Give my love to Doug. I love you both so much. Aunt Helen

P.S. If you want to get in touch with me you can do it on Gena's blog. She recently let everyone know that it is my blog spot too but I haven't gotten the courage to try it. One of these days.

Congrats Brent! Peru, that is amazing! I can't imagine how you are feeling Lori but I do understand the torn feeling. How wonderful to know that your kids are choosing to serve the Lord and follow him. I hope that someday, I get to feel torn too :)

I like that family picture of us! I have the video on my camera so if you want it you can get it. I've heard a couple scary things about Peru and I'm a little nervous. Everytime I think about it, I cry! It's really sad, but I wouldn't want it any other way!

WAHOO! Congrats Brent - I talked to him the other day - he seems so excited. I told him this - but I will tell you too - you are so welcome to stay with us if you bring him up to the MTC. My mom said you might be staying with someone else and that is fine too. I just wanted to let you know the offer stands. This is so exciting!
